September 2024 took us to the enchanted country of Portugal.
Guimarães
Our first stop in Portugal was the ancient town of Guimarães. A world heritage site, Guimarães is known as the birthplace of Portugal. It was from here that Afonso Henrique, Duke of Portugal, declared his independence from the Kingdom of Leon and established Portugal as an independent nation in the 11th Century. Portugal is the oldest nation state in Europe.
